About the Artist
Connie
Coffelt Lawrence was born in Omaha, Nebraska
in 1951. By the age of eleven, Connie’s
family had moved five times, before they settled in Pasadena,Texas. She currently lives in northwest suburban Houston,Texas,
with her husband, son, Golden Retriever, and Black Lab mix.
While
attending kindergarten in Cincinnati
Ohio, Connie’s teacher, Mrs.
Wimberley made a recommendation to her parents that she should study art - if
she showed a passion for the subject.
Connie certainly had the interest, always finding time to draw on
available free space on used or blank paper. She displayed a special interest
in portraits, and spent many hours in her room drawing faces on the back of her
Church commitment envelopes.
She
took art classes all four years at Sam
Rayburn High
School in Pasadena,
Texas. rAfter graduating in 1972 from The Texas Academy of Art in Houston,
Connie spent the next 17 years working in graphic design, but continued
painting watercolors of her friends in sport: distance runners, marathoners,
and surf competitors.
After having her first child at age 42, she took a break from painting. On her 55th birthday, she decided to start
painting again. She also bought a surfboard - just for fun.
Connie specializes in transforming an ordinary
candid photograph of a “special” event in an individual’s life and capturing
that moment with a beautiful watercolor painting.
